Managing Products Imported From Stripe
Published: Updated:
Once you have imported products from Stripe, Stripe owns some of their details and ClickFunnels owns the rest. Editing the price in Stripe updates ClickFunnels automatically, while settings such as visibility, trials, and setup fees stay yours to control in ClickFunnels. In this article, you will learn how to find your imported products, what you can and cannot edit, how to copy and convert an imported price from its row menu, and what happens when something changes on the Stripe side.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”-
An active ClickFunnels account
-
At least one product imported from Stripe (refer to Importing Products and Prices From Stripe Into ClickFunnels)
The Imported Products List
Section titled “The Imported Products List”In the left-hand menu, select Stripe » Imported Products. The page lists the products you have imported from the selected Stripe account, with the subtitle “Products you’ve imported from Stripe into ClickFunnels.”
-
All and Archived tabs — the Archived tab shows imported products you have archived in ClickFunnels.
-
Name, Stripe product ID, and Prices columns. A product imported without prices shows Product Only.
-
The installation switcher at the top changes which Stripe account’s imports you are viewing.
-
Import Products takes you back to the picker.
A product or price that no longer exists in Stripe is shown struck through, with a tooltip explaining why:
-
“This product has been deleted in Stripe.” / “This price has been deleted in Stripe.”
-
“This product has been archived in Stripe.” / “This price has been archived in Stripe.”
What Stripe Controls and What You Control
Section titled “What Stripe Controls and What You Control”Open an imported product from Products and you will see an Imported from Stripe banner naming the Stripe account it came from, with a View in Stripe link that opens the product in your Stripe dashboard. Product rows and the product editor also carry an Imported from Stripe badge.
Managed in Stripe (read-only in ClickFunnels)
Section titled “Managed in Stripe (read-only in ClickFunnels)”-
The price amount, and for subscriptions the billing interval — the price editor explains: “This price is imported from Stripe (your Stripe account name). The amount and billing interval are managed in Stripe and cannot be edited here.” A one-time price shows the same notice without the billing interval.
-
The tax code. If Stripe Tax is enabled for the installation, the product shows which tax code Stripe holds and reminds you to manage it in Stripe.
Managed in ClickFunnels
Section titled “Managed in ClickFunnels”-
Whether the price is visible at checkout.
-
Trial periods and setup fees.
-
Cost and compare-at amounts.
-
Self-service subscription options (cancel, upgrade, downgrade, reactivate).
-
Product visibility in your store and customer center, and whether the product is taxable.
-
Whether a recurring price bills as a subscription or as a payment plan, and the Amount of payments a payment plan stops after (refer to Converting an Imported Subscription Into a Payment Plan).
The Price Row Menu
Section titled “The Price Row Menu”Open a product from Products and scroll to the Pricing section. Every price imported from Stripe carries an ellipsis button — More actions — at the end of its row. Prices you created in ClickFunnels carry a pencil icon instead and have no menu.
| Imported price | Menu entries |
|---|---|
| Subscription | Edit price · Copy price · Convert to payment plan |
| Payment plan | Edit price · Copy price · Convert to subscription |
| One-time | Edit price · Copy price |
A one-time price converts to neither type, so it gets no convert entry at all.
An entry you cannot use stays in the menu, greyed out, with a tooltip giving the reason:
-
“You don’t have permission to do this.” — your role cannot edit, copy, or update prices in this workspace.
-
“This price can’t be converted because you have active customers subscribed to it.”
-
“This price can’t be converted.” — for example, the price is archived in ClickFunnels.
If nothing in the menu is available to you, the menu itself does not appear.
Copying an Imported Price
Section titled “Copying an Imported Price”Copy price creates a second ClickFunnels price pointing at the same Stripe price, with the ClickFunnels-side fields editable on the copy. It is available from the moment you import the price — you no longer have to sell the price first, so you can set several prices up before you start selling.
-
Open the product from Products and scroll to the Pricing section.
-
Click the ellipsis on the imported price’s row and choose Copy price.
-
Click Proceed on the prompt: “Copy this price? The copy starts hidden until you make it visible.”
-
ClickFunnels confirms “Price was successfully copied.” and the new price appears in the pricing table.
The copy:
-
points at the same Stripe price, so orders still charge what you imported — and the amount and billing interval stay read-only on the copy too;
-
is created hidden, so nothing changes at checkout until you make it visible;
-
carries over the price name, payment type, amount, currency, billing interval, amount of payments, cost, compare-at amount, trial, setup fee, and the self-service subscription options;
-
does not carry over the price Key, which stays unique to the original.
Copying is also how you get around a locked price. A subscription price that has active customers on it cannot be edited — that protects the people already paying it, and the editor says “You cannot modify this price / You can’t modify this price because you have active customers subscribed to it.” Copy it, adjust the ClickFunnels-side fields on the copy, make the copy visible, and hide the original. Customers on the original keep billing unchanged.
Converting an Imported Subscription Into a Payment Plan
Section titled “Converting an Imported Subscription Into a Payment Plan”Stripe has no concept of a payment plan. A recurring Stripe price has a billing interval and keeps charging until someone cancels it, so every recurring price you import arrives in ClickFunnels as a subscription.
A ClickFunnels payment plan is a recurring price that stops after a set number of payments. That cap lives in ClickFunnels, not in Stripe — which means you can re-type an imported subscription as a payment plan without changing anything in your Stripe account.
Before You Start
Section titled “Before You Start”Convert to payment plan sits in the row menu of every imported subscription price, and Convert to subscription in the row menu of every imported payment plan. The entry is usable while the price is:
-
Imported from Stripe. Prices you created in ClickFunnels have their type fixed when they are created, and carry no row menu at all.
-
Never purchased. No order has ever used the price.
-
Not archived in ClickFunnels.
You also need permission to update prices in the workspace.
When one of those is not true, the entry is greyed out with the reason in a tooltip rather than disappearing. If the price has already been sold, copy it and convert the copy — refer to Copying an Imported Price.
Converting the Price
Section titled “Converting the Price”-
Open the product from Products and scroll to the Pricing section.
-
Click the ellipsis on the imported subscription price you want to convert and choose Convert to payment plan.
-
The price editor opens on the payment plan form and shows a warning: “Converting this subscription to a payment plan. Set the amount of payments below. Nothing changes until you save.”
-
Enter the total Amount of payments. The field is highlighted and the cursor is already in it. It arrives blank, so type the number you want — leaving it empty fails with “Amount of payments can’t be blank.”
-
Click Save. ClickFunnels confirms: “Price was successfully converted to a payment plan.”
The amount and the billing interval stay read-only the whole time, because Stripe still owns them. The number of payments is the one recurring field ClickFunnels controls, so it stays editable for as long as the price is unused.
Converting It Back
Section titled “Converting It Back”If you converted a price by mistake, the row menu on a payment plan offers Convert to subscription.
-
Click the ellipsis on the price’s row and choose Convert to subscription.
-
Click Proceed on the prompt: “Convert this payment plan back to a subscription? Billing will continue until it is canceled.”
There is no form to fill in and nothing to save. ClickFunnels clears the number of payments straight away, the price bills as an open-ended subscription again, and you see: “Price was successfully converted to a subscription.”
The same eligibility rules apply, so you can only convert back while the price is still unused.
When Something Changes in Stripe
Section titled “When Something Changes in Stripe”Changes you make in Stripe flow back to ClickFunnels automatically — you do not need to re-import:
-
Editing a product or price in Stripe updates the imported item in ClickFunnels.
-
Archiving in Stripe marks the item as archived. The product shows Archived in Stripe, with the note that you will not be able to use it unless you unarchive it in Stripe.
-
Deleting in Stripe marks the item as deleted, with the note that you will not be able to use it with that Stripe account.
If you archive or delete an imported price in ClickFunnels, that Stripe price becomes selectable in the import picker again, so you can import it back later.
If You Disconnect the Stripe Account
Section titled “If You Disconnect the Stripe Account”Removing a Stripe installation from a workspace does not delete what you imported. The products and prices stay in ClickFunnels, and the Imported from Stripe badges, banner, and tax note simply disappear while the account is disconnected. Reconnect the same Stripe account and everything relinks.
The imported structure itself does not change while disconnected: the product still has its single variant, and imported price amounts stay read-only.
Frequently Asked Questions
Section titled “Frequently Asked Questions”Can I change the price of an imported product in ClickFunnels?
Not the amount — that is managed in Stripe. Change it in Stripe and ClickFunnels updates automatically, or add a new ClickFunnels price to the product if you want a price ClickFunnels controls.
Can I make an imported Stripe subscription stop after a set number of payments?
Yes, as long as the price has never been sold. Click the ellipsis on the price’s row, choose Convert to payment plan, then set the Amount of payments. Refer to Converting an Imported Subscription Into a Payment Plan.
Do I have to sell an imported price before I can copy it?
No. Copy price is in the row menu of every imported price from the moment it is imported, so you can build up several prices on the same Stripe price while you are still setting the product up. Refer to Copying an Imported Price.
Why is "Convert to payment plan" greyed out on my imported price?
The entry stays visible but greyed out when the price cannot be converted, and the tooltip says which reason applies: the price has active customers subscribed to it, it is archived in ClickFunnels, or your role lacks permission to update prices. Once a price has been sold, its type is locked — copy it with Copy price and convert the copy instead. A one-time imported price has no convert entry, because it converts in neither direction, and a price you created in ClickFunnels has no row menu at all.
Why can't I add a variant to my imported product?
Stripe has no concept of variants, so an imported product maps to exactly one variant. Import (or create) a separate product for each variation you want to sell.
I archived an imported price by mistake. Can I get it back?
Yes. Open the import picker for that Stripe account — the price is selectable again, and importing it restores it.
My imported product is not collecting tax. Why?
Imported products are created as non-taxable. Open the product and mark it taxable; the tax code itself is managed in Stripe. Refer to Setting Up Tax Collection (Sales Tax, VAT, or GST) in ClickFunnels Products.
Where do I see which Stripe account a product came from?
The Imported from Stripe banner on the product names the installation and links to it, and the Imported Products list shows the Stripe product ID for each row.
